We offer social interaction groups for preschool and school age students, adolescents and young adults. We provide intensive social interaction groups in the school holidays, after-school social interaction groups and groups during school hours at schools too. Participants are placed in a group that matches their age and abilities, irrespective of whether or not they have a diagnosis such as ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Weekly Social Interaction Groups
Attending a social interaction group each week allows individuals to make long-lasting connections with the other participants. They’re able to practise and apply skills learnt from week to week and feel comfortable with each other as they challenge themselves within a supportive environment.
A range of areas are covered in our groups such as:
- Conversation skills
- Working cooperatively by compromising and negotiating
- Expressing emotions effectively and emotional regulation
- Developing a growth mindset and realising the importance of giving things a go
- Building self-confidence with a focus on our strengths
- Strategies for effective conflict resolution
- Listening to others and responding without being too dominant or passive
- Perspective taking
- Increasing awareness of how our actions impact on others’ thoughts and feelings
- Reading social cues, for example identifying facial expressions, tone of voice and body language
Social Interaction Intensive Holiday Programs
We run intensive social interaction holiday programs during all school holiday periods. These run for 2 hours a day across 3 consecutive days in our clinic. We welcome all ages including Preschool, Kindergarten, Lower & Upper Primary, Adolescents and Young Adults.
This is a fantastic opportunity for positive social behaviours to be reinforced in a 3-day fun-filled program while learning strategies to support areas of challenge for each individual, whether they have a diagnosis or not. We focus on building self-confidence through exploring individuals’ strengths and what makes them unique.
We match similar-aged individuals, taking into consideration their abilities to ensure that they are able to participate to their full potential. Throughout the program we do a range of activities and games that explore and generate the need for different social concepts to be covered. These are filled with tasks involving supported risk taking, conversation practice and most importantly, setting up the opportunity to make new friends and just ‘hang out’. The supportive environment aims to decrease explosive reactions and social anxiety while promoting fun, laughter and good times. We'll also integrate your child's specific goals throughout these tasks.
